WHAT WE’VE LEARNT – OUR ADOPTION BLOG

Welcome to our little blog. We wanted to share some of our thoughts, experiences and things that we’ve learnt being adoptive parents, in the hope that it can help others. There will be all sorts of things in here about courses we’ve been on, books we’ve read, money saving tips along with general updates about the site.

In a few places, we will talk about certain things that we’ve bought as gifts or were gifted to us, we’ve linked to those in the adoption gifts section of the site as well for ease of reference in case anything interests you.

This page shows our 5 latest blogs, you can see more by following the ‘Older Entries’ link at the bottom of the page.

As with most siblings – our two are a world apart.  Lark is physically active, bordering on aggressive sometimes, whilst Owl is reflective and occasionally sullen and shut off.  The more time I spend with Owl the more I’m concerned about his emotional gaps.  We’re going through a rough patch at the moment. Owl is overwrought with emotions, unable to make decisions even bursting into tears when asked what chocolate they would like.

Filling in the gaps

Filling in the gaps

Well this week I wanted to look at little more at emotions, feelings and communication. I’ve previously mentioned that when Lark first arrived, they were angry. Lark is managing to find other ways to manage their anxiety – rather than just hurting us, or the animals or innocent plants (like my lovely roses that took a bashing the first year) in our garden.

Well that’s it – summer has come and gone. I hope you’ve had an exciting summer, I know we certainly have and I have so many things I want to write about but I’m starting with something simple.

I’ve been thinking over the summer that for the purposes of this blog it’s hard to keep referring to my children as elder and younger so it got me thinking, what animals are my kids like and could I find a nickname for the purposes of this blog which would reflect their personality types?
